@miljko This is really disappointing sensationalism, without any medical basis or precedent. Not fair of the media to falsely get people's hopes up with no concluding evidence. I would surmise this causes even more harm than good, creating false hope leading to increased anguish if/when it doesn't work, or nothing comes of it.

@rcrackley I remember a university PR department announcing a MAJOR CANCER BREAKTHROUGH to the press. But when someone took the trouble to talk to the actual researcher he said "This may be promising news, if you're a mouse."

@rcrackley @JMaxB @pimoore Oh, please don't get me started on mice. Every so often I get emails from Serbia asking about the cure for cancer after their national TV news covers a NYT story that covers — a university press release about a mouse study. Sigh…

@miljko @rcrackley @jmaxb From a medical ethics standpoint, I think there should be a law that prevents anyone at any level—especially researchers—from publicly releasing any information that doesn’t involve testing in humans.
