A new version of iA Writer has dropped today, version 6.0, along with a new website. I have been beta testing v.6 and while there are new tools that I like and appreciate, I am generally underwhelmed by such a major upgrade. UI changes on iOS are welcome (lightening menu) content blocks... www.crossingthethreshold.net

@crossingthethreshold looked at the update. I feel it’s a very basic update. Such a big deal is made of linking and it is even not that sophisticated

@rcrackley I'm already using wikilinks in iA because I feed so much from it into Obsidian if it merits keeping longer-term.

@rcrackley Thank you for that perspective, Robert. I think because I use other apps to manage and connect my notes, I did not see Writer beyond being for…writing (blogs, essays, etc).

@crossingthethreshold For me, this iA Writer uptick is exactly what I wanted. Now I can quit waffling with Ulysses et al. and resume actually writing. Congrats!

@rogerscrafford @crossingthethreshold I’m actually (and shockingly) considering dropping Ulysses for iA, and picking up Scrivener on iOS for future novel writing. I’ve also been using Drafts for even more posts lately and wonder if I could even just get away with it instead.

@pimoore @rogerscrafford @crossingthethreshold I switched to iA Writer several years back when Ulysses went subscription. Been using it ever since. I've dabbled in a few of the other options but always kept it around and always come back to it. While there have been no huge features added it has improved over time and all for the cost of a one-time purchase. Taio is another very nice markdown editor option and the only one that I still use consistently. So nice to have so many options!

@pimoore spread the love. Every editor I find is good at certain things. Don't think I post nearly as much to Micro.blog if it wasn't for Drafts. iA is where I spend my time writing longer form.

@Denny @rogerscrafford @crossingthethreshold Never heard of Taio before, though I’ve never really considered other editors beyond the ones I’ve either known or using already. Part of this is a financial decision, but it’s also that Ulysses’ handling of Markdown is starting to bother me.

@kaa Do you use iA for your book writing as well, or something different?

@pimoore all my writing begins in iA. For desktop publishing I use Pages. I was using Craft to collect ideas but have been leaning into Rainbow.io for link collecting.
