I feel like such a hypocrite sometimes. By hating on everything that Facebook is and stands for but still having an active Instagram account.

@Gabz I've been thinking similarly recently. In our defense though: it's only been recently that Facebook has been overtly mucking about with Instagram.
@walter True! but still, every time I open the app and see the "From Facebook" logo I die a little inside lol
@Gabz yep. Me too. That and the new way that ads are appearing is making me think about using it less.
@walter wonder if there would be a way to kinda RSS post from certain people , you know. Like the way you can RSS tweets from certain people with Feedbin
@Gabz We all make tradeoffs in this imperfect world. And when you can't draw your boundaries with perfect purity, it doesn't make you a hypocrite. Do what you can, be practical about the rest, and give yourself some grace. The energy you spend kicking yourself could probably find a more joyful purpose.
I struggle with the same feelings, and this is the advice I'm trying to heed lately. :)
@Cheri Thank you for this Cheri. I have left the Facebook world, but make use of Twitter. It is a source for me of software support, and through the use of lists I can follow people who enrich my life and interest me. AND I battle at time with the toxicity that is on that platform and ask myself if it is time to leave? Your reflection is helpful to me.
@Miraz I never heard of that rule, and now I need to cross stitch it to hang where I can see it.
@rnv Thank you for that additional knowledge. I see mention in that page of the Golden Rule, but not of the Reverse Golden Rule… All good things to keep in mind.
@rnv All good. One of my core values is knowledge, so always happy to be exposed to additional truths. And it seems I misread that WIkipedia page to be that Hillel was expressing the Golden Rule. (Im really tired today…)
@Gabz That’s understandable. I still have one too. Interestingly, I took it off my phone a couple months ago, and only access it through the browser on my desktop (got the idea from Cal Newport’s Digital Minimalism). It’s helped break the habit of checking it, and even better, it doesn’t show ads and it’s chronological instead of algorithm-based. It’s also helped me feel less attached, and more like it’ll be easier to let it go as a result.
