I got out of all stocks last year. If we had money to burn, I might invest in Figma. Seems like they’ve got things figured out. But also there’s too much hype around anything in the tech industry. Established companies will be fine. OpenAI will be fine. Everyone else, who knows. 💸

@manton Apple is the only tech stock in our portfolio right now. It also constitutes the largest percentage of the total. That was not the plan and against all sound advice but our advisor has strict instructions to let it be.

@patrickrhone Apple has been an unbelievable investment. I still remember when I was young working for a tiny Mac startup in the 1990s, thinking, “Wish I could afford to buy a few shares of this $15 Apple stock…” 🙂

@manton That’s exactly what my wife did then at that price.

@manton in stocks, as in antiques road trip:

it’s not about the current or future quality of the thing, it’s about whether you’ll be able to sell it at a higher price later than the price you can buy it for now

@manton I just stick to ETFs. FTEC has been outrunning the total market for a while mostly on the back of nvidia, and it’s over the balance I aim for so I just buy the rest of the market instead of topping up.

But I still believe in tech long term, just prefer a lazy portfolio despite yeah there are probably safe bets to be had if you don’t mind more concentration than big tech already has.

@manton Did you just sell all stocks and have it at the bank or what did you do with it? I have it mostly in ETFs, but I am curious what you went for.

@georg ETFs make sense. We were getting ready to buy a house and move earlier this year, so needed to just have cash for that. So it was kind of a unique case, but I don’t think I enjoy worrying about the ups and downs of individual stocks.

@manton I find the irrationality of Trump’s stock market nauseating. Like you, I’ve removed my money and am looking into a self-directed ira.
