I’m going on a road trip down the Oregon coast to Crescent City, California. Multiple stops along the way.

Is there really no way to save an itinerary in Apple Maps? I keep looking up the same bits of info as I plan.

Is there a third party app for trip planning (and trip saving!) that you recommend?

@jean CC itself has some problems, but that part of Southern Oregon, and Northern California is my favorite place in the US! My parents and my sister and other family lived in and around Crescent city, Brookings, etc. So much beauty!

@jean When we went our road trip in '22, I had the same need. I looked at Guides in Maps, but they're pretty limited. Other than a third party app your best bet is sharing locations/points of interest to a note that you create for the trip.

The thumbnail it puts in the note is reasonably descriptive and tappable for directions, and you can add in checklists, links, commentary, whatever.

I didn't use it this way (I wish I had), but it could also be the basis of a trip diary too.

@clorgie I’m looking forward to it! There’s a 60th anniversary event commemorating the 1964 tsunami that I’m interested in, which is taking place in Crescent City.

@montyhayter That’s a great suggestion!

@jean I’ve used the “My Guides” feature in Apple Maps to track places I want to go. It's fine, but it's not really an itinerary feature

I use the Tripsy app as travel planner. Not sure what the free features are, but I think it may do what you're looking for!

@jean If you haven’t seen this already you can create a guide for a trip where you save points of interest. It’s not a list like an itinerary would be though.

%40jean we use Apple Map%E2%80%99s Guides%2FCollections feature. It suits us but is definitely needing some TLC %E2%80%94 especially missing iCloud collaborations. But they manually share easily enough.

@jean And will you have time to stop at the Samoa Cookhouse?

@jean Not exactly an itinerary, but I save to the Guides feature.

@rogerscrafford That looks cool. I’m only going as far south as Crescent City this time.

@jean as you might imagine, I have a bit of experience with planning trips. I have a blog post about what I use, but I’d recommend Google Maps on desktop; I use that to plot each travel day. It can route up to 10 stops, and you can get a shareable link (that I save in my calendar).

@jean A new discovery for me the last time I was there about a year ago: the Klamath Beach Road drive a little bit south of CC. Amazing views and an interesting, rare, WWII radar station that was designed to look like a farmhouse.

@clorgie Thanks for the tip! It’s so windy and rainy today, I opted for a car ride instead of a walk or hike. That one lane coastal road was exciting. I’m glad I had it to myself.

@jean Lovely place. Very special. We did some camping at Gold Bluffs Beach in October ‘22. The stacks off the coast in Klamath were especially cool to see

@jean I'm so glad! I've been living vicariously through your pics and vids...at a moment when I've very much needed something like that. Thank you.
