🔗 Insanity in the Air: The crash of Pakistan International Airlines flight 8303

A facinating post. One of those posts where you know the writer knows what they’re talking about, and has clearly done a lot of research for the piece. Will definitely take a look at their other posts.

@lmika I’m amazed that I haven’t heard about this before. Incredible!

@odd Yeah, I don’t remember it either (was sort of a crazy time). I’m looking at some of the other posts as well. They all look really good.

@lmika I’ve become interested in aviation over the past few years, thanks to a few YouTube channels (Mentour Pilot, Green Dot Aviation, Allec Joshua Ibay) and learned over many case studies the absolute importance of crew resource management (Wikipedia). If the pilots aren’t maintaining a focused work environment, mistakes can be compounded. This case is especially egregious.

@jean Oh, I 100% agree. It’s such a huge factor. I’m a huge fan of the TV show Air-crash Investigators (I think it’s called Mayday in the US) and they showed many instances in which better crew resource management could’ve saved the flight.

@lmika I used to regularly watch that show, but with an high anxiety period I stopped, and didn’t fly for years afterwards. I’m also reminded of the in-flight movie in “Airplane!”, which is kind of like ACI.

@odd Oh yeah, I can see how someone would come away from that show like that. For me it actually gave me more confidence in air travel. Knowing that these accidents improved systems and operations afterwards.

@lmika That show is very good, though it stresses me out to watch reenactments with actors. When I first started watching these, I only watched Allec Joshua Ibay’s videos, which are created with flight simulator software and have subtitles instead of narration. It is the least dramatic format.

@jean Yeah, they do the re-enactments very well. I’ll have to check out the Allec Joshua Ibay videos.
