Got my car battery replaced. And in a ridiculously well-timed coincidence, just got an “our records indicate it’s time to get your battery checked” email from the Honda dealership. I don’t usually buy into the most extreme surveillance marketing conspiracy theories, but the timing is uncanny.

@manton I wonder, when the car gets serviced, do they send all of the ECU information back to the manufacturer. The batteries have a rated lifespan and if they get the engine information they can probably predict when it will die.

That’s not much better, I was considering this myself recently with my Toyota.
