@Parag I donāt know, or have forgotten how the American political system works, but like in my own country, Norway, Iām sure there are many that start their political careers being idealistic. Either they change, or the system changes them.
@odd Maybe that is how it was back in the 70s and 80s but, currently It is quite bad here. They are all scum at different levels. One needs to be at least a horrible person as baseline to qualify to be a politician.
@Parag š Iām sorry, that last line was funny, and we could all laugh if the reality wasnāt so bad.
Itās not that bad over here I think, and I follow a local politician that is deeply involved with social issues and are promoting sensible policies.
I know they arenāt all of that caliber though. The way you come to national level here is to have served in local government, or been in committees for a party, which we have a number of. Or you are a political ābroilerā, been fast tracked in your party system. š“šµš¢š”ā«ļø
@Parag Letās not ābothsidesā this. People from one party are disproportionately are the ones without good intentions.
@pratik Agreed! They are all scum - at different levels. It makes my blood boil when I see them attacking people like Dr. Fauci.
@odd the American Political System only works in the sense of for the politicians. It does not work for the people ⦠despite the platitudes suggested by phrases like āfor the people, by the peopleā.
@Parag Haha, that description definitely applies to like 90% of Australian politicians too.
@pratik @odd The world is full of rainbows and unicorns after 45 minutes on exercise bike. šš½
Sorry for that outburst. Heard this [story](Americans Like It, Congress Ended It: Free School Lunch For All : The NPR Politics Podcast - https://www.npr.org/2023/03/30/1167163106/americans-like-it-congress-ended-it-free-school-lunch-for-all) on the radio about congress ending free lunch and I lost it. This is the fucking richest country in the whole world and they are taking away lunch trays from 8 year olds because there is no money in the account. Doesnāt matter if the parents are unemployed or spending all their money on opioids or just lazy and forgot to put money in the account. How can they deny food to kids in lunch line? The worst part is that they have to throw away that food because they canāt put it back in circulation because a kid touched it.
Them politicians - they are all scum.
@johnphilbin
@Parag That gets my goat too. Free lunch for kids should be a given in any country that calls itself developed. But again, letās call out Republicans specifically.
@odd he doesnāt and it wonāt happen. The donkeys and elephants have two much riding on the duopoly. And AOC et al wonāt change it either. I mean think about how many Rethuglicans disagree with the current direction - and they donāt break away.
I think also that Bernie is officially Independant ⦠though caucuses with the Dems ⦠whilst Joe Manchin is a Dem and hardly ever votes that way - and is even suing Biden at the moment ⦠or at least is thinking about it!
@pratik Why canāt Bernie pull a Anna Hazare and start a fast on the steps of US capitol until this gets reversed? What is he there for?
@JohnPhilpin What a mess! š
