🙄 Waiting for the little one to fall asleep. Again! It’s 11PM, for crying out loud!
@maique How do they do this? Mine has been talking to himself for up to 2 hrs after lights out sometimes lately.
@KimberlyHirsh @Portufraise That is crazy! Mine isn’t doing that, yet. She just wants to talk to us, and asks for another song, or story. Seems like she thinks the fun will stop when she falls asleep, and wants to keep going for a little while longer.
@maique Child FOMO Syndrome. I think it has a lot to do with hating to miss out on the (imagined) excitement. We never came up with a solution, though a very quiet & predictable bedtime routine helped a bit.
@JMaxB We’re very far from both of those: it’s neither quiet, or predictable, no matter how much we try. We’re very aware of both needs, but somehow things don’t really go that way. We do try, but every time we mention settling down a little, the excitement level rises 🤣
@maique We were told that if we didn’t go to bed, the Night Shift, (Nattskiftet), would come. (We imagined it was a scary monster that lived in the basement).
@odd There was a time when Irish children were told "Go to sleep or Oliver (Cromwell) will come for you." Not a tactic I've tried myself.
@JMaxB It’s been so long since I have heard that name, I had to look it up. Apparently he ended monarchy (for a while), and the first Charles of England. I think I’d go to bed hearing that too, but maybe not sleep right away. 👹
@pdxmph I can’t say I remember those tactics, but I’m sure they’re a thing over here as well. I’ll check with my mom, I’m curious now.
