@odd tried to get some better photos today; at least as far as my point-and-shoot camera will allow. I love herons too! I think this is a young one; lots of stripes and streaks.

@toddgrotenhuis Didn’t you write about living near a heron rookery, or am I misremembering?

@annahavron We haven’t seen any nests, yet (though @JMaxB was giving me tips on spotting them up in the sycamores), but we get tons of great blue sightings and have had some green sightings, too.

Our rural acres include a couple ponds, a sizeable creek, & wetlands. The herons find lots of good hunting there. We’ve actually named it “Heron Haven”.

@toddgrotenhuis that sounds idyllic! I grew up in very rural places and miss being able to wander through settings like that. @JMaxB that’s news to me too re their affinity for sycamores; I’ll look more closely in future
