Whew. After 18.75 hours power has been restored. Now charging all the things. 😀 And looking into @jean’s suggestion of a portable power station like this one: YETI 200X Portable Power Station - Goal Zero New Zealand

@Miraz Right in the city, we've had enough outages in our 25 years here that we put in a generator — natural gas-fired in our case. It doesn't power everything, but it keeps frozen food frozen, keeps us online, runs at least one television, etc.

@ReaderJohn One local guy, who until a few months ago was a registered electrician, wired his house so a generator would power the fridge and some other items if needed. This is the biggest outage we've ever had. They used to be frequent but these days tend to be occasional 'blips'. The storms of the last couple of weeks kept the lines guys super busy though and they had big trouble locating why our power was out.

@Miraz 18 hours is a very long time. Wow.

@jstr It was! You go to turn on the light … nope; the tap … nope (our water's pumped from a rainwater tank).

@Miraz I like having mine. It's small, but at least I know I can get a few things up and running. The water pump sounds like a challenge.

@jean I just have lots of water stored in large bottles in the garage. In some super major disaster we could lower a bucket into our water tank I guess.
