@odd Not in Hawaii.

Side note, I did a spell at a salesman at the local Toyota dealer coming out of lockdown. Almost couldn't give away Corollas, people just want Tacomas, and will go it debt to get one.

@Pilchuck I think we still call them Hi-Lux here. I knew Tacoma from studying Maps around Seattle (after what you said about the similar geography and Scandinavians), also, I remember it from Frank Zappa’s “Jewish Princess”.

@hawaiiboy @Pilchuck @odd I’ve had 3 Tacomas…and more Subarus than I care to admit in mixed company. Just saw something about the Taco being the #1 seller in Hawaii. Sound about right?

@hawaiiboy @odd @Pilchuck Sidenote: Anyone know what Toyota were thinking when they named the Tacoma? I may be a SeattleSnob, here…but Tacoma???

@jessekelber Not the city, the mountain, I suspect. Google turned up this:

Tacoma. From the Salish Indian word for the mountain that provided water to their tribe (later changed to Mount Rainier). The name suggests images of strength and power.

@Pilchuck interesting, I knew Tahoma as the native name for Rainier, apparently Tacoma is a different dialect. Leaned several somethings interesting today, thanks!

@Cheri ha, didn’t realize that. So if I reference The Tacoma Aroma, you’re one of the few people I know who won’t look at me funny?

@Pilchuck Aha! I didn’t know that this was what the name originated from.

@jessekelber The paper mill and the pickle factory are long gone, yet echoes of our ancestral stank remain, lingering on Interstate Five, making me grateful I moved north to the land of coffee, skyscrapers, and clean sea air.
