Sooooooo a few blogs I follow have switched over to micro.blog, which is great and all, but now I get blog posts and “micro posts” in my RSS reader, which is not what I want. Is there a feed for only the posts on a micro.blog site?

@mattbirchler Currently it’s up to each blog to have a separate feed for full posts. For example, I use the filters feature to automatically assign a category (and feed) to posts with a title.

@mattbirchler I categorize mine as micro and macro but I don’t thing there’s a way you could just follow the “macro” posts. If there is a way to just follow, say my “macro posts” I don’t know. Sorry to disappoint

@manton @mattbirchler , wait, so I could generate an RSS feed for say just my “macro” posts and not the micro ones? That’s how mine are categorized, anything wi the a title is macro and anything without, it ain’t

@Gaby @mattbirchler Yes, the "macro" feed is already there: https://gabz.me/categories/macro/feed.xml

@manton Ah, gotcha, thanks! I’ll check out if any of the folks I’m thinking of have this set up.

@manton Nice! How about having this filter on by default for all microblogs? Just like the filter for photos, this seems to be useful default and a common use case for micro.blog users.

@manton I would love to have a more complete exaplanation on how is this done?

@uncertainquark This might sound silly, but the reason I haven't made it the default is I couldn't decide what to call it! 🙂 Lots of variety in category names: macro, fullposts, longposts, essays, titles, etc.

@numericcitizen Good idea, I just posted to the help center with a description: help.micro.blog/t/rss-fee...

@manton I think "essays" is a good default name. By definition, most types are between 200-1000 words, with an average hovering between 400-600. And academic essays can be much longer so it wouldn't completely rule out posts of users who choose to use micro.blog for longers blog posts too. I assume people can always change the name or just delete the category so hopefully this shouldn't be a breaking change.

@uncertainquark I personally like "Essays" too. That's what I use. Renaming it would be key... Similar to how we make it easy to create a photos filter but the category can be "Photos" or "Photography".

@manton I'm guessing there's no built in setting to limit the rss feed to certain categories, instead you'd have to adapt the theme, right?

@ChrisJWilson That's right. @gr36 was recently trying this and posted results in this help topic: help.micro.blog/t/custom-...

@manton this is pretty groovy.

I've been wondering how to make micro blog more relevant to me (vs Twitter where I am WAY more engaged) and split feeds could factor in to some automation thoughts I had to help balance it out
