Starting to see “included in Premium” free audiobooks in Spotify. This is going to be great.

@manton Does that mean not subject to the monthly cap? My wife was disappointed by the cap, particularly when it ran out before she finished the book she'd borrowed. $1.29/hr for more time doesn't seem like a great deal compared to just buying them in a format that would persist past ending a spotify membership.

@donw I haven’t listened enough to know the details, but I assume there’s a cap. I guess it depends if it’s something you’re going to listen to again.

@manton My gut reaction to Spotify having audio books “included” tends to follow my feelings about them locking in podcasts, paying musicians (and now authors?) hundredths of a penny, etc: what’s the lock in, and who gets the profits?

@manton Then again, I don’t use Spotify. 🤷

And, I’m tired and a little cranky today, so don’t mind me. 😂

@muncman It's a fair point. I think the reason I'm open to it is that audiobooks are completely dominated by Audible, which I don't think authors are thrilled with either. A minor audiobook shakeup might be a good thing.

@manton I thought public libraries do audiobooks as well.

@renevanbelzen They do. Most of my audiobooks come via the Libby app now. But often there is a months-long wait.

@manton Try Hoopla if Libby is backed up. It sometimes has a wider selection of available titles.
