I enabled bookshelves in Micro.blog for everyone this week. There is more tinkering I can do, but I think as-is it’s already useful for anyone reading and blogging about books. It’s also now possible to add new books that can’t be found via search.

@manton Thanks so much for this, Manton! 📚 🙏
Is it only available in the web view, or will it be enabled within the iOS app as well?
@pimoore Only on the web for now, but I'd love it on iOS too later. We probably need an API so that other apps can do interesting things with the data. (Or even build book-specific apps like Goodreads.)
@manton A separate app in the likes of Sunlit or Wavelength would be great, IMO. If you ever take votes for an app name, may I offer up “Prose” or “Peruse”.
@mikiejones No worries! One risk with adding anything new is we clutter up the menu. I'm very mindful of trying to keep it under control and debated whether this should be in the menu at all.
@manton I'm all for this. Maybe it is possible to create a database for stuff we wanna watch, read, do etc? Then put a link to all of this? Just one link and then it opens up to a menu ?
@manton Great work! Really like this feature. If you add books yourself, will it then update the database where the book search is, or don’t they have an API to do that?
@odd Not currently. If you add books yourself, they are mostly just for you (although in some cases it may use your cover art for other searches if there isn't any).
@mikiejones That's an option, for sure. I want to keep it focused on books for a little while and then revisit whether it should be generalized to other things.
@manton sounds like a good plan. I am really loving your micro.blog Been using it to log life. Thanks for this app! I'm venturing into coding. So I may need some pointers in the not so distant future. Hope you can help me out if I run into roadblocks in coding…
