It’s Micro Monday again. No podcast while I concentrate on moving/house prep.

I’ve been doing a series of roll calls to help enthusiasts find each other. For this Monday, I’m calling on coffee enthusiasts to put down your cup and put up your hand in the comments. ☕️

@jean I’m no feinschmecker when it comes to coffee, but I am a fanatic about getting some sort of coffee, so I guess you could call me an addict. ☕️

@jean Total coffee snob here. 👋🏻

I keep addiction in check by refusing to drink inferior-grade caffeine. 🧐

@jean 👋☕️🤓

Currently drinking this Royal Flamingo rum-aged coffee. First time I’ve encountered a coffee aged in this style. It definitely comes across in smell and flavor more than I would have expected!

@jean 🙋‍♂️I am always up for hearing and trying some new coffee.. In fact just ordered some from bootstrap coffee roasters ☕️

Portland changed me from a British tea lover to a coffee snob! Though the website Teadog is seeing my British tea drinking increase again.

fgtech

@crossingthethreshold Tea was also my gateway to coffee. I am always willing to try a new take on chai.

Except “dirty chai” (with coffee in it). That’s an abomination. Don’t cross the streams! 🍵⚡️☕️

@jean brewing coffee using Nanopresso every morning. By mid-morning, it is either a pour-over or a Pipamoka, or the cold-brew that I made the day before (using just a mason jar and a cheese cloth). Beans hand-ground. :)

@jean I think it’s mostly the ceremony of trying to make the perfect cup, but definitely in this group.

@jean Hand raised here. Just a "satisficer" when it comes to coffee, but I grind my beans at home and count on my morning mug(s).

@jean Coffee is life. I need good quality, but I don’t fuss over it too much or seek out new beans a lot. I’m content with good, steady cups of coffee - black and hot. I have three Aeropress devices, and a quality grinder.

mariovillalobos

@jean Definitely me! I subscribe to Trade Coffee and have bags of whole bean coffee delievered, I have a Baritza Encore and grind my own coffee beans, I use a scale and measure my coffee, I have a digital kettle and boil my water to the same temperature everytime, and I use an Aeropress and the inverted coffee method to brew my coffee. Don't talk to me until I've had my 3rd cup of coffee.

@jean I like coffee ☕. I am not particular, but I am a sucker for themed blends. Recent favorites include Bones Coffee's Salty Siren and Geek Grind Coffee's Goblin King's Elixir.

@jean I love coffee so much that I would have coffee over water if I had to choose just one beverage for the rest of my life. I’m not a snob though. Just strong black brew, never decaf. Six cups a day. ☕️

@jean I’m a Lavazza girl myself. My Italian bf way back yonder used to drink it. I used to try lots of expensive varieties but then realised it all tasted pretty much the same to me (I draw the limit at freeze dried though!). So this feels like a trusted choice. For me it’s also about the milk added (Barista Oatly is my preferred choice). Addicted hmmm....I go through phases. Usually one cup a day, two if I’m feeling naughty. I definitely drink one before I go out dancing 😄☕️💖✨

@jean My preference is to have a thermos bottle of dark roast by my left hand from rising until about 6 pm (sometimes later). I nurse it so long that I’m really not wired. My constant companion these past few years is from monks on Vashon Island, Washington.

fgtech

@hollyhoneychurch Anise flavors are a challenge for me. I am a HUGE fan of cardamom and have also experimented with cardamom in my coffee, which I like sometimes — not the same as a dirty chai.

fgtech
fgtech

@hollyhoneychurch Most of the coffee I have enjoyed recently has natural delicate flavors that are hard to tease out and would be completely overpowered by cardamom.

@jean I gave up drinking instant coffee about 30 years ago (seems like forever) and since then have owned a succession of mocha makers, filter coffee makers, French presses, espresso machines and (since 2014) AeroPresses. Until a few months ago, I had never ground my beans: I always said I got through the ready-ground stuff too quickly for it to lose its flavour. I bought a small hand grinder because the only way I could get the coffee I like delivered was as whole beans. I like a dark roast espresso grind. No “delicate flavours” for me, sorry.

@fgtech aha - so you're not into licquorice either? I get it, cardomom is very strong. It's interesting because I can taste the subtleties of tea and chocolate, but coffee goes over my head. I guess you have to have it black to get the full aroma and I'm a sucker for cream : )

BenSouthwood

@jean I consider myself a coffee snob, but just use a french press at the moment until I have room to (hopefully) get my proper coffee set-up out of storage again.

fgtech

@hollyhoneychurch Yes, no licorice for me thanks!

Although I have tried coffee straight black many times, I also can’t give up the cream. Just the right amount of fat to enhance the flavor. Medium and lighter roasts let those flavors out. Grind fresh beans at the last minute.

fgtech

@hawaiiboy You must be able to look your Kona producers right in the eye! I have to get my fix from a place in Woods Hole.

@jean I've gotten into coffee over the past few months and I really enjoy the preparation process every morning. First, decide what method you want to use and how much you want, next, grind the coffee, and so on. ☕️

@fgtech yes. I have a lot friends who grow coffee. Kona coffee is not as good for espresso, but really good for a smooth black cup o joe.
