Vodafone PT was hacked. No 4G/5G, no SMS service, home routers not working. A lot of people are unable to work from home. Also no Uber/Uber Eats, and similar apps. Thankfully I still have Sygic, so I’ll be able to find my way to the assignment. Waze is a no go today.

@maique Oof. Immediately made me think of this conversation about our dependency even on just smartphones, let alone further down into the internet itself as infrastructure.

@simonwoods Yeah, I saw that one. True. Today is a very hard day for a lot of people. I noticed when I tried to transfer money into an account, and the confirmation SMS didn't make it through. Fired up Twitter (home network is from another company) and things were on fire. Not having phone service, and data, means people will not be able to work at all. Some are probably ok with a little downtime, as it doesn't reflect on their paycheck, but these days thousands are working gigs for those companies, and that means no money at all.

@maique My first thought was for poorly-paid workers at places like Walmart who work "flexible" (ha!) hours: they wait for a call/text telling them what shift to come in for.
