I’m beginning to wonder if people should talk more—face-to-face, in Teams, on WhatsApp, or really anything that promotes a discussion rather than back-and-forth over the interwebs. Just a thought.

@matthewlang Also, even meeting once IRL (as you and I have) goes a long way to knowing who someone really is.

I miss that part of tech conferences and such. Having met Gruber at a Macworld a long time ago changes the way I read him online and what I "read into" his posts/writing.

@patrickrhone There's so much to be gained from meeting in person or online (if distance is an issue). You can lose the tone of the conversation when you're online.

Over the next few years I will find myself in Canada and the US a bit more often, so it might be time we meet IRL once again!

@matthewlang I would LOVE that.

That said, driving around the UK (Scotland included) has been a long held bucket list trip so you never know when I might show up on your doorstep.

@SimonWoods I’ll put it on the list. Like I said, our bucket list item is to drive all over and see as much of the Kingdom as possible. I have many online and offline friends and acquaintances all over. I’d likely share the itinerary long in advance and try to meet up with as many as possible.

Would like to do the same in Ireland though we have driven much of the North (though we did spend a few days in Dublin) so we’d focus on the South instead.

@matthewlang @patrickrhone Big fan of actively converting online acquaintances into IRL friendships!

Since 2017, I’ve had a goal to do just that once each month.

So I keep a database of people I’d like to meet and their location, and even have a form where you can sign up to add yourself to it.

@rscottjones What we believe in.

I, also, love doing the same. @matthewlang and I had the opportunity to meet and spend the better part of a day together when I was last in London. Was so honored he flew down from where he lives on the norther coast just for the occasion. I would love the chance to return the honor.

Also, I'm ALWAYS up for meeting anyone passing through the Twin Cities (Minnesota) area. Please be sure to reach out should you ever come my way.
