I had been using Obsidian a lot less for a couple of months but I’m back again! But I know it doesn’t gel for a lot of people. If you use a similar but different app, I’d love to know what you’ve found.

@ChrisJWilson Obsidian is a constant point of discomfort for me. I like the use of text files, but there's lots of things that feel slightly 'off' to me, especially on iOS or iPadOS. Haven't settled on anything else yet though.

@philbowell Yeah, the mobile version really doesn't feel like an iOS app. Sometimes that can be kind of cool on the iPad as it feels like it's the desktop...but it's also not so easy.

Have you tried any alternatives? TBH, I was talking to @chadgmoore about it yesterday and he can't get into it either largely due to the limits of the iPad version so I'm partially researching for him.

@ChrisJWilson I've tried a lot but not been able to settle. iA Writer, Ulysses, NotePlan, Craft, Bear, probably most of them. I'm in flux again at the moment, considering giving Apple Notes a proper go for a bit. I just discovered ProNotes which allows for Markdown in Apple Notes which has previously been the barrier there.

@ChrisJWilson I have tried both Obsidian and Foam in the last year, and I couldn't stick with either of them. In Obsidian's case, having a dedicated app didn't win me over. It's the same reason I gave up on using Bear for notes.

Foam didn't work for me because I didn't like constantly being in my text editor. Coding and note-taking in the same environment made me feel like I was always writing code.

I've settled on Basecamp as a knowledge management tool for the last few months and find that having different projects for different collections of notes is much better for me. Also, I don't living mind living in my browser!

@philbowell Oh, I might have to check out pronotes. Have you ever tried drafts? That's been my markdown note taker on the go app (plus it does have support for tags and links). I do sometimes wonder about just moving into drafts.

@matthewlang I had never heard of foam but I'm not really a coder (other than the occasional website tinker). I had not heard of anyone using basecamp for that! have you got a now retired basecamp personal account?

@ChrisJWilson I’ve given drafts a few tries but it never really clicks for me. Not sure why.

@ChrisJWilson I sprung for a paid Basecamp account. Use it for just about everything! I used the free account for a while but the limit in projects was too restrictive so I upgraded to a paid plan.

@philbowell it’s definitely one of those apps.
