One vibe-coding project I’d like to tackle in 2027 is building a native app for Mac and iPhone. I already know what I’d try to build: a Micro.blog super app—something @manton isn’t willing to create. And I’m okay with his decision; it’s an opportunity for others like me to take the challenge.

@numericcitizen Looking forward to what you build! I hope there’s room for multiple apps that can appeal to different users.

@numericcitizen weird question: can an app like that edit theme files? I have an idea…

@rscottjones I don’t see why it wouldn’t be possible if Micro.blog exposes APIs to access theme files… and I think it does. What’s your idea? cc @manton

@numericcitizen @rscottjones That is a hole in the API, no easy access to theme templates. I’ve been wanting to add this! I’ll review what’s missing.

@manton I have the feeling that a super app would help discoverability within Micro.blog… I mean, a user discovering the richness of Micro.blog capabilities by having features closely tied within a single execution environment.

@numericcitizen I built a series of MB mapping plugins that work off a data file in the custom theme directory. Haven’t launched them yet, but will after I finish up another project. It would be super cool for users to be able to edit those map items in an app instead of in the MB theme system, which might be scary for non-technical users. Not sure how viable it is, but seems like a cool idea if it could work. @manton

@numericcitizen I made 3 inter-related plugins:

Maps = points on a map (with links/photos/videos,etc)
Tracks = gps routes on a map, with points (with links/photos/videos)
Colormaps = choropleth maps (colored in maps, for US states, European countries, countries of the world, etc)

Added some extra features that broke some of them, just never quite got back to reverting those features, prepping it for plugin directory, and writing up the website. Each maps works off a simple yaml file in the custom theme directory.
