If programming languages don’t matter much anymore, but reviewing code matters more than ever, can we resurrect RubyCocoa? Ruby is still one of the most elegant, readable languages. Wish I could use it everywhere.

@manton I think strong type safety is more important than ever in this age

@bens Fair point. Ever since moving away from C++, I’ve never missed strongly-typed languages, but the trade-offs might be different now.

@manton Cocoa is not Objective-C

Cocoa is not Swift.

Cocoa is not Ruby.

Cocoa is you; it is me; it is all around us.

@manton yeah, coupled with a compiler that gives you as rich diagnostics as Rust, I think the tradeoff is totally worth it. (I say this as someone very fond of Ruby)

@manton Yes! My book on RubyCocoa was the least successful I ever wrote. But hope springs eternal.

@marick Bummer that it wasn’t more successful! I guess that was a confusing time for developers choosing the best language / framework.

@manton @marick didn’t Apple discourage GC for ARC (vague recollection of that sort) which foreclosed adoption ?
