Mark Gurman has a blog post about John Ternus attempting to streamline Apple:
The early ideas under consideration include relying less on traditional spring and fall product release schedules… […] Ternus wants the company to introduce products more frequently — throughout the year.
Sounds great! But:
They have discussed launching new services and extracting more revenue from existing products and offerings.
Not great.
@manton also not a fan of their layoffs, but i guess we can’t see what’s going on in the company. from the outside it doesn’t seem necessary though
@manton It doesn’t read awesome, but they’d be derelict of duty if they didn’t figure it out. Can’t grow unit sales infinitely and they’ll have to find new revenue streams (like leasing). Like it or not, they’re a publicly held company and those shareholders expect growth, profit, and dividends
@j4ck.xyz My feeling is if a company is making literal billions of dollars, they shouldn’t lay off anyone. Just stop hiring for a bit and reshuffle people around.
