This quote from Craig Federighi fits the discussion Daniel Jalkut and I had on last week’s Core Int about the Duo replacing the need for both iPhone and iPad. Just makes sense unless you need a big iPad or shared iPad for the whole family.
@manton I should make the exercise of simulating the buying of an iPhone 17 + iPad mini and compare the whole thing to the Duo.
@manton Have you seen photos w Duo & iPad mini? I love reading on my mini & have a sense of what that is good for. I can’t imagine the Duo is quite that big but would if it is then that’s intriguing…although I’ve been a 12.9/13” iPad Pro user for so long that I’ll always find a place for that in my life

@manton I’ve been thinking about that. My iPhone (14 Pro Max) and iPad mini (6th gen) are both getting a little old, plus I managed to crack the screen on the iPad a few weeks ago, so I’ll probably be in the market for a new one or the other soon. But I think I’ll want the top of the line camera.
@manton Seems pricey to me plus the first generation of Apple products tend to be under-featured. But in 2-5 years? Absolutely!
@manton I did the math. 1499$ for an iPhone 17 + iPad Air base configuration. Convenience isn’t cheap, apparently.
@manton It’s a clear form factor use case .. but there’s another distinction. My iPad is USED in a different way to my phone and has different apps and notification settings … so my iPad is basically more ‘distraction free’ .. not easy seeing how a single device is going to manage those distinctions.
@JohnPhilpin Good point. If it’s used in different settings, doesn’t make as much sense to combine both devices.
