RE: manton.org/2026/08/20/i-dont-k

I've noticed this as well. When I was on the Android team at Google, I remember we (and Android OEMs, generally) were dogged for having bad animations - esp compared to Apple

But with these new crazy-long iOS 27 notification animations, and elsewhere, like Manton notices here, I feel like Apple has really jumped the shark

this "new design" is not winning any medals

I don't know what "Post pending" means, but I was referring to Manton's post here:

podcastindex.social/@manton@ma

@js post pending means your server hasn't verified that the post is allowed to be quoted (I think it should fallback to a link in that situation, but there's probably a reason why it doesn't)

@tom Thanks Tom, so this is _my_ server doing this?

@dave @adam can you fiddle with the settings so this doesn't happen?

podcastindex.social appears to be running v4.6.6, a very recent version

@js

Step 1. Convince the iOS community to switch to cool new UIMenu system
Step 2. Make that menu system do weird things to host controls, also make it slower
Step 3. Profit?

@timonus I've mused that the last few years iOS development has felt like the very early days of Android development.

It's easiest to use the standard controls, but your app will look bad, and bad like all of the other apps.

So quality 3p apps differentiate by doing _a ton_ of work to implement a proper design themselves using whatever lower-level APIs are available

Mine was also showing "post pending" until just now, so I assume the delay was on manton.org's side. I don't know the exact process but I think each server has to fetch either his user or just that specific post and check if has the quotable property.

yes it's now popped in and visible, I've emailed Manton to see if there is anything on his side that might have held this up

@js Mastodon’s new quote post feature (to allow people to opt-out of quoting) essentially asks my server to approve the quote. It’s automatic but can get bogged down sometimes. Also glad the slow menus aren’t just me!

@js @tom @adam I think it's a setting in Mastodon that the originating server and or actor can set to disallow quote posting. There is this idea that quote posting can be a harassment mechanism. Maybe it is. Idk.
