This video posted on X about OpenAI’s mission is very good. Feels personal and real. Jason says:

i wanted to capture what it feels like to work here, what our mission means to me, and why you should join us.

OpenAI should run some version of this as an official ad. Even some of the companies that I dislike the most (like Meta) have thousands of people who believe in their work and are trying to do something meaningful.

@manton I would have loved to have watched it. Unfortunately, X blocks me from interacting with the video (I am unable to unmute the video without logging in). Maybe the person who posted it will be able to post it again on a more open platform.

@groomsy Sigh. Some of these silos have gotten really bad about that… Reddit is another one that is essentially unusable if not signed in.

@manton It’s unfortunate because it essentially caps your potential audience. I’ve had the same experience with Reddit lately and it’s frustrating.

@manton Reddit’s has gotten so bad it has turned me off the site entirely, and I feel like I’m missing out less, so it’s got that going for it I guess

@groomsy Yeah, it’s disappointing to see these platforms take another step back. I assume most people posting to X (or LinkedIn, or wherever) are just not thinking much outside of that particular community.

@sameoldstory I followed a search link to Reddit yesterday and was actually a little shocked that it put a modal over the article with no way to dismiss it. It’s like a paywall, but you pay by signing in.
