In Europe we use Hetzner, and I’ve always been bewildered about how it’s a fraction of the cost of Linode. But lately we’ve had a number of server crashes over there. Spreading servers across multiple providers is probably still the way to go.
@manton Probably some corners have had to be cut somewhere, even if we assume they are satisfied with less huge profit margins compared to the US behemoths.
@manton I’ve generally been very happy with Netcup, which is also German and has comparable prices to Hetzner (and I think it might reuse some of their data centers / network infra?)

@manton I’ve been looking at OVH lately for projects, as they have US based servers with built in backup at the cheapest hobby tier, rather than upper levels you need on Hetzner or someone like Digital Ocean.
What do you use for your (I’m assuming 😂) managed DBs?
@bax MySQL on 64 GB RAM Linode servers. Managed myself for now. Expensive but so far (knock on wood!) they have been solid.
@manton I imagine servers in Europe are being challenged by heat conditions. These might be nothing compared to much of the U.S., but the change there has been much more dramatic.
