In 2023 I started winding down use of the Twitter API after they moved to a $100/month developer plan. X has now switched to a $0.01/tweet pricing model for posting. I could add the feature back, with some limits, but not sure it is worth it. Somehow, X still trudges forward in some communities.

@manton How is it looking for reading posts, out of curiosity?

@manton I’m likely in the very small minority that might actually use something like this. Maybe less in my current usage but when blogging for work it would make crossposting to X straightforward. You’re right that it still presses on and is (at least in my field) still the number one place for academics.

@manton I'd vote a hard no on this. X does not deserve your money or your users' money. You can't stop people from using it, but there's no reason to give a single cent to them.

@mackuba.eu For reading it’s per API call, I think half a cent. Strange for an API like this, but I guess everyone is used to AI token pricing now.

@markstoneman The reason we support any cross-posting is to make it easier for people to start with their own blog. I view it more as a way to encourage blogging for people who would otherwise post only to X, Threads, whatever.

@markstoneman I agree about limits. And to be clear, at the moment I think it’s a bridge too far. Will have to let the idea sit for a while.
