A longer walk today, then decided to get a few groceries and took a Waymo back. Eventually this isn’t going to be noteworthy. As humans we normalize so many things that once seemed insane.

The photo shows the interior of a Jaguar car, featuring a steering wheel with the logo, multiple screens displaying navigation maps, and a view through the windshield of a road lined with trees. No one is driving the car.

@MitchWagner It’s such a cool experience. I went from a Waymo doubter to a believer really quickly.

@manton if you’ve ever tried Tesla FSD, you know eventually human drivers will be seen as a relic of the past. I won’t say it’s perfect, but it is truly 98-99%. Most of that 1-2% that isn’t perfect is navigation preferences or pothole avoidance.

@adrianizq I haven’t experienced FSD yet. I’m still skeptical that it will ever be 99% without lidar, at least in some weather conditions / nighttime. I would like to try it, though… I saw a Tesla robotaxi here in Austin the other day.

@manton All I can say is you have to try out. And not just on the highway, but around town, new areas , etc. I drive about an hr to work, and I’m not exaggerating, it drives me the whole way. The only times I take over are to avoid a few potholes I know about, and then this one really weird 5 pt intersection that I see actual humans get confused by also.
