@manton I always appreciate your thoughts on AI, even though I’m unapologetically against it in most cases and don’t touch it at all. I’m curious if you actually take anything Sam Altman says seriously when he’s been shown to basically say anything to get what he wants, publicly and privately?
@SimonPeng Not everyone will agree with me on this, but I think the stories about Sam Altman being dishonest are a little overblown. It’s fair to be skeptical, though… When I listen to him, it’s mostly to get a feeling of what OpenAI is going for.
@manton Fascinating take. I like the idea of reading his words as a vibe more than fact, though I bet you’re in the minority there. If you’re curious about how overblown those stories are I’d recommend reading “Empire of AI” by Karen Hao. It’s really well researched and more than just online gossip
@SimonPeng Thanks. I’ve read so much about this, but only excerpts of Empire of AI. I’ve read the recent The New Yorker piece and the book The Optimist. Countless podcast interviews! 🙂
