Micro.blog books update: manton.org
@manton I read a lot of books that are out of print and don’t have ISBN’s. And don’t choose to promote the Google book profiteers doing cheap rep prints of PDFs. I’m hoping there’s a way to show a book without linking to these bot farms.
please have some fallback for when a book doesn’t have an ISBN
@manton Now this sounds interesting, I was wondering what to use my m.b. for, maybe now I’ll make it a Book Blog and do book reviews etc.
@manton Thanks for working on this, Manton. I’m finding sometimes that even after I post, books aren’t ending up in my goals. If I go in and manually update the date finished and then update the post, that seems to fix it. I haven’t noticed if it’s only happening in Epilogue for Android or also on the web, so I’ll pay more attention to that going forward.
@manton Thank you for the hard work on this! The book feature is very important. Just a side note: I make book changes in Epilogue and it does not transfer over to my blog, unless I force a rebuild.
@manton I know you have RSS on your mind now, but for when you have time: I cannot add books from the web. When I try to add to “Currently Reading” I am taken straight back to the Bookshelves page with no changes registered. I just tried adding in Epilogue and that seems to have worked, but I won’t know for a while, because when I do add books they can take up to a day before showing up on the main site or my blog. This is one of my favorite features of micro.blog, but I am really close to giving up on it and looking for another solution.
@ayjay Thanks, I updated the books search last week but something still seems wrong that I’m investigating. It works for me but not for everyone. Hope to have it fixed soon!
@KimberlyHirsh I think I’ve got this problem fixed where it wasn’t updating the goals right away. Lemme know next time if it doesn’t seem to work!
@cliff538 @ayjay @donmacdonald I’ve fixed another couple of issues with books search and moving to categories, including better republishing of the blog. Hope it works better now!
@manton Very nice! This appears to have fixed the issue in Safari … was able to add books to my “want to read” and “finished reading” shelves and published a post.
