When I experimented with not federating my posts for a few months, I also accidentally muted everything from Mastodon. Now that I’m seeing everything again, I’m not sure my life is better. Perhaps there should be a preference to temporary hide external posts — Mastodon, Bluesky, Tumblr, etc.

@manton Anything that improves mental health is likely always worth implementing. It's a crying shame when supposedly open platforms turn out to be less so culturally but then we are talking social media which seems to encourage our worst instincts.

@manton @manton … When you get round to fixing this could you also look to displaying how people you follow are displayed … first order … display by network .. mb follows, masto follows, bsky follows and then choose prefs for how you engage with each of those networks

@manton Mute Bluesky. Keep Mastodon. Free and open source is better. That Bluesky is just another X or Facebook: vc funded and eventually will become bad.

@dfgomes Bluesky is open source. I don’t think it’s going to become bad, or at least not in the usual ways.

@manton Oh is it? Good to know. I hope so. I heard some complaints from some other users a few weeks back, but I don’t know what it was about.

@JohnPhilpin @manton this isn’t a bad idea. I would like to possibly hide people I follow from other services, if anything just to figure out who is where, after awhile it becomes a blur.

@timapple ‘the blur’ is without doubt an issue.

@manton I have set mine to just cross-post and not federate at all.

I use Tapestry to merge everything into a single timeline, and it has MUTE, etc., features that make it easier to manage. :)
