Great feedback yesterday after we updated Micro.blog hosting with better support for replies. Thanks! I’ve added a help page with some more information on customizing reply templates on a blog’s theme.

@manton maybe link to an example post with timeline replies included (versus just a screenshot) ?

@SciPhi Good idea. Updated the help page with more links.

@manton With the new changes related to replies, I hope you’ll also give us more granular cross-posting options.

@eurobubba Thanks. I have a basic plan for how I think that will work (still have some other things to get to first).

@manton Wouldn't the replies page be more useful if there was a link back to the conversation in which the reply occurred?

@ndw It currently depends on the reply... If you click into the single reply, it links back to either the full conversation or the first blog post. I could probably always make the conversation URL available too.

@bix Micro.blog includes whatever URL you're replying to. So that could be on someone's domain or on Micro.blog (with the conversation). I think what's missing is there should be a separate variable (unrelated to replies) that points to the conversation, so you can use it in any post.

@manton @eurobubba Happy to hear you're working on more granular cross-posting options.

I want most of my micro.blog posts to appear on Twitter and Tumblr -- but not all of them. Right now I do that on Twitter through simple cut-and-paste.

I want everything from micro.blog to appear on Tumblr too EXCEPT for posts originating initially on tumblr. In those cases, I reblog the post on Tumblr and share it manually to micro.blog. Right now, I pipe my micro.blog feed through feedrinse, then to IFTT and to tumblr. That works, but not well. I wish it was cleaner.

I'd like the ability to share micro.blog on Facebook too, but I understand that's out of your control.

Here's what I'd like to see: I'd love it if I could control cross-posts easily on a per-post basis. Every time I post to micro.blog, there would be checkboxes under the text entry area, reading "crosspost to Twitter" "cross-post to Tumblr," and I could easily toggle each.

Ideally, the options would also be accessible through the API, because Drafts is my primary tool for posting to micro.blog.

I'd also like to be able to set up filters for cross-posting -- if a micro.blog post contains thus-and-such text, do not send it to Twitter, etc.

I get that this is a big request, and if you just put it on your someday/maybe list I'll be content. :)

@MitchWagner @manton As for me, I’m a little reluctant to post a detailed rundown of my wants since I haven’t thoroughly explored what’s already available yet, but I can say I’d love to have a robust scheduling function.

@manton @bix Yes. Definitely my immediate confusion was that there was no way to get from a reply to the conversation, or to see the relevant replies directly on the post (recent interleaves replies to all posts so the point of interest is diffused)

@eurobubba I'd enjoy seeing your wishlist, even if it is only partly baked.

Funny thing: As of a month or two ago I would have agreed on robust scheduling. Indeed, LACK of scheduling is a big factor that kept me off micro.blog until recently. I used to schedule most of my posts, using the queueing function in Tumblr, Auto Post Scheduler in WordPress, and Buffer for Twitter and Facebook.

Now I've gone the opposite way. I just post everything in realtime. On rare occasions, I'll write a draft and publish it manually later, but I'm doing that less and less. No matter when I post, somebody will be around to see it. On Twitter and Facebook it's all algorithmic, so posts that gain traction tend to hang around for days.

@prologic Yes, you have to enable it under the Account screen. It will work "okay" in the default theme you're using, and better in Marfa currently since we include some extra info about the reply. (You'll need to link to /replies yourself, but that will be automatic soon.)
