Pebble is launching a ring called Index 01 for voice recording. The design looks a little more clunky than the upcoming ring from Sandbar, but the Pebble ring is less than half the price, with an open architecture. Pre-orders are going to fly off the shelves at $75.

@manton This just popped up in my YouTube recs and I need this so bad. I lose a dozen thoughts a day and it’s not getting better as I near 60. And, unlike Trump, my cognitive testing has shown some areas of concern, though an MRI of my brain says I am “unremarkable”. In MRI talk that’s apparently a good thing ;)

@tylerknowsnothing Ha! Yeah, I have ideas all the time that just float away if not written down.

@JohnPhilpin Yeah, I wouldn’t feel comfortable using it somewhere crowded. In a coffee shop, I’d use my phone or laptop. I’m mostly thinking while walking outside or driving in the car.

@manton i go to a darker place where people do not have Manton morals - I think about a less obtrusive, audio only google glass.

@JohnPhilpin Oh, I get what you’re saying now. I thought you meant people being annoying by talking to themselves in a coffee shop. 🙂 Good point. Ideally the microphone wouldn’t be able to pick up nearby conversations.

@manton What should be embarrassing to Apple is that the Watch could already cover this base, but Siri and offline support away from your phone is so bad every time I attempt to make a note it is just an unmitigated failure 🥴

@bax Yep. I would love to see Apple prioritize this use case. Make Siri dictation much faster and more accurate. The ring does have an advantage that it can be used with one hand, but I’m not sure that’s critical.

@bax right?! The Drafts complication used to do a good enough job with this, but then Apple hamstrung them with some changes.

@manton Apparently the battery is non replaceable, and you’re expected to throw the whole thing away when it dies. Both from an economic and environmental perspective that sounds like a pretty bad deal 🤔

@manton I’m in a coffee shop right now, and I wouldn’t sit here dictating to any device. I just type. I’m fine with it at home or elsewhere on my own though.

@Eyebeemania Right, if I have my phone or laptop out already, much easier to just use that.

@bomberstudios From an environmental perspective, I’m glad at least they will recycle it, although if someone has to pay shipping, most people probably won’t bother. Even better would be if they an exchange program where you send it off and they replace the battery.
