@manton I love this, and also, don’t discount the positive incentive of paying for a service you want to use in a disciplined way. It might be tricky to talk about from your position as recipient of said payment, but for me, paying $10/mo is a great reason to post every day.

@manton I think we should’ve learnt our lessons by now - nothing, that’s sold as free, is.

And I completely agree, we do not need a single entity controlling content and content makers, especially one that’s VC backed. Once they do, they will get an offer they can’t reject from some one big.

@ablaze That's good to hear. I think there is something to being invested (in time or money) to really try to make something work and get value out of it.

@manton Anchor switched how the app worked completely at least three times. I gave it a fair try for the first two iterations, but twice bitten…

@manton I find it amusing and frustrating that few lessons have been learnt from the platforms you mention. They all went downhill, and sold out (they had to). We all want podcasting to be as mainstream as possible, but just free-and-we’ll-raise-money-elsewhere is damaging to the medium just like it was to written content & can’t be the default.

@manton Nothing is really free. Anchors TOS are not great, and you have to wonder where it will go in the future.

@manton you know, this was really well stated. Am glad to hear it said, and said well. I get the fervor podcasting creates, but seems no different than photo hosting, blogging, and even sites from earlier days of the consumer web
