Huge new ruling by the judge in the Epic Games case. Hope to take advantage of this as soon as possible in Micro.blog to let people subscribe from the iOS app. Finally a clear voice of reason in the App Store.

@manton I think this is the correct ruling and should have been done (by APPLE) years ago - but Apple has already said they will appeal.

Personally, I wouldn’t do too much work implementing this in case it gets rolled back.

But if it’s just a link to an existing payment system, do it!

@manton that’s why I have never supported apple. #Enshittification at its finest. One of the greediest companies I’ve seen. Put it alongside its small companion, Adobe.

@manton It’s good to put a face to those affected here. Mostly I’ve just imagined games selling power-up gems.

@manton “Cook chose poorly” is an all too common problem these days. Time for him to go.

@rnkn I don’t see games actually taking advantage of this. There will still be less friction with Apple’s in-app purchase, so games will stick to that for impulse buys.

@manton I wonder whether we’ll start seeing call-to-action links along the lines of “Purchase our Pro Version and see related applications” leading into co-ops or mini app stores. Seems like potentially this opens up discovery as well as subscriptions.
