@pratik I honestly don't understand what Micro. One is at all.

@stupendousman From what I understand, it’s to provide ultra-cheap blogging. Maybe as a gateway to their .blog plans? Dunno about the business reasoning.

The .blog branding however now doesn’t work since what you have via Micro. One is also a blog.

@pratik Yeah thats what I thought so too and asked @manton. I mean I would move my wordpress blog to micro.one if it provided me ability to lock down some specific posts and make them private to me only. Like its what I need to move from wordpress to micro (i dont care about fediverse or sharing or crossposting - so its perfect for me to move my blog), but I just can't make out what it offers. It would be nice to focus on what you get for 1$ when compared to other blogging platforms rather than talk about what you are missing from .blog by getting a 1$ account. A change in messaging may help.

@stupendousman Agree that it should be about what it offers and not what it doesn't offer coz it's not meant for existing Micro.blog users anyway. Let them later find out what else they can get for four bucks more. BTW you can get all the crossposting you want at Echofeed for $25 a year.

@pratik So M.o is a stripped-down version of M.b? Honestly, I still don't get it. Maybe it is because I'm not a power user who plays around with design and themes. I know that I'm not using M.b to its full potential.

Off-topic: How are you doing? Haven't been on M.b for quite some time myself. Hope you guys are doing well. Are you excited for the Elon Musk Presidency? 😜

@ridwan That's what it seems like. As Micro.blog users, it's not intended for us. The Musk presidency sounds exciting. We're preparing you for the Musk monarchy in the UK soon. Farage is setting the ground there.

@stupendousman @pratik For private posts, you could set them as drafts if you really don't want them on the web. The other option is our private notes feature, which isn't in a Micro.one subscription (but will likely be an add-on later). There are no plans for WordPress-style private posts.

@manton Any tool to convert posts to private posts? Or is it manual

@pratik I know! Crazy fun times ahead. I'm not sure why Modi hasn't asked for Elon's help yet. I suppose he might do it for his fourth term.

@pratik We always win, mate. It is kind of funny to watch Hindutva num nuts go all in on MAGA and now cry that MAGA is against them. I guess you are not on H1-B, right?

@stupendousman How many private posts do you write in a year? Since you already use a pseudonym, what do you mean by private? Whenever I have to share some writing with IRL people whom I don't want to reveal this blog, I write it on Write.as and share the link for that particular post. The URL is such that they don't know about this blog or even a blog on that platform. E.g., I've sent this post to several of my IRL friends who asked for it. Otherwise, what @Manton suggested is cool, too, i.e., private notes. But you'll need a $10 subscription for that.

@stupendousman Actually I just remembered that after a post is published, we don't currently have an interface for switching it back to a draft without deleting it. I'll add that. But drafts don't really seem like what you want. I think shared private notes is a better fit if I understand your use case. Or keep the private posts somewhere else.

@pratik No, I'm still on Mastodon, and now crossposting from here. May have been quiet for a bit. In terms of blogging, the election made personal stuff seem insignificant and negativity about the world seem unhelpful. So, I'm still looking for how I want to write.

@Seadave Sounds good. Sometimes people hop servers and automatically make me unfollow them so hopefully that's not the case.

@manton Yeah I am ok with private notes as well. Will look into that option and test it out -- i haven't used it till now but will do.

@pratik Not many tbh, but there are some private posts about mom I wrote long back that are just password protected. I want them on the blog in a single place instead of using multiple tools to keep my posts organized - thats what I was looking for. Is there a way to password protect posts on micro? I dont think so.

@stupendousman Got it and makes sense to have them in one place. I'm trying to be more open on my blog but believe it or not, I still write posts that I don't share. Those go in my DayOne journal where I also crosspost all my Micro.blog posts to archive it. I did print it out one time but at least I know, it's for my (and my close family's) eyes only. But yeah, for you, Notes on Micro.blog should work best.

@pratik Its a good idea. I am actually going through all my private and password protected posts now to see if passage of time has made them less relevant and less important to be marked private or hidden. It may be a good time to assess if they really should be private or password protected anymore coz so much time has passed by.

@manton micro.one got me to sign up and run my personal site from micro.blog. Notes may get me to go for premium. The subscription pipeline is working for you lol
