Add Edit Post Link with Kirby CMS : amitgawande.com/blog/2024/edit

I recently added a button on my website that allows me to edit the current post when logged in to the Kirby CMS panel. This change is part of my general effort to reduce friction between my intention to write and the editor. Here's how I implemented this - something much more straightforwa...

I am already finding the option a lot useful. I have corrected a couple of posts that ran into by chance and found some mistakes. Making something frictionless helps.

@amit I wish this feature existed in Micro.blog. Always have to go search for the post in the Editor after seeing a small typo on the website.

@pratik Yeah, it is very useful. @manton can enable this somehow if he exposes the edit page url. Not sure if he already does.

@amit @pratik It’s possible. The tricky part is hiding the link if you aren’t signed in, since technically the blog is separate from the platform. But I have thought about it.

@manton @amit That's cool. I thought it wasn't possible in Micro.blog. What happens if someone else clicks that link? If it shows a message along the lines of "you cannot edit this page," that should be ok. I'm always signed in to my Micro.blog account, so the improvement for me would be huge.

@pratik @amit That's right, an error like that. Ideally the link would just be hidden if you aren't signed in. WordPress does something similar too.

@manton @pratik @amit On-blog edit button would be really nice to have.

@Annie @pratik @amit Thanks. I was thinking more about this… Wasn't there a plug-in by @sod that did this? Did I imagine that? 🙂 It might be possible with a plug-in, ideally with an API for the signed-in user part.

@manton Yeah, I prototyped an edit button a while back, but I never got around to releasing it as a plug-in. I'll see if I can dig that project up again… @Annie @pratik @amit

@sod Cool! Glad I didn't imagine that. Let me know if you dig it up and need any help.

@pratik @manton @sod

An ‘inline post edit button’ would be awesome
