Linked the 🎙️ emoji in Discover to a list of recent podcasts. Still tweaking the filters, so it doesn’t include everything yet, but already a good way to find some microcasts.

@manton What if Wavelength had a “discover” section for podcasts similar to Sunlit for photos? I feel like each of these content specific apps can really benefit from having both a way to create posts but also to consume Micro.blog posts with the same media format. Branding that mode as “discover” seems like a great start!

@macgenie I think they better check the fine print in their performance contracts. Surely their agent is screaming & jumping up and down, fighting for every inch of what was promised in those contracts.

@manton Is there a way to get an RSS feed from one of the discover lists? (It would be neat, since that way I could subscribe to the microcast list directly in Overcast.)

@MrHenko No, that would be cool, but for now there are only JSON versions of Discover.

@manton That’s alright, I can write a little script that translates the json for me. What’s the url/endpoint for the json version?

@MrHenko Here it is. Although as I look at it, there’s no MP3 URL… We should probably add that. micro.blog/posts/dis...

@manton That would be a great feature, yes! I guess I can try to parse the urls given as "url", but that means my idea of a simple script grows to a bigger problem. I'll tackle it some other day. Thanks for the quick replies!

@MrHenko @manton not being a developer this might be daft. I made a bookmarklet that adds a huffduffer link to all the posts on the podcast discovery page. I can huffduffer episodes without clicking through to posts.

@ChrisReed @manton is Wavelength open source?

@sull Nope. I've considered open sourcing it or parts of it, but it's still so new, want to see how people use it.

@manton that makes sense. I am always of that mindset too. open source is often best suited for small demo/sample code, libraries and informal projects thatr have no strategic plan. If code has a strategy or may have one, then is better to get that all sorted out and mature the code before officially releasing as open source so that contributions are more useful and in line with the broader intention of the software. Else, you will get contribs that are part of the wrong path and ultimately could be throw-away code etc etc.

@manton I have wanted a starter template for a voice recorder that I can hook into my own server-side app/API. I think something should exist for the open podcasting developer community. Since recording audio on the web is still erratic (i.e. Safari iOS still limited support for audio-only capture) it makes sense to have lightweight companion native apps to fill in where the web lacks.

@johnjohnston Thank you very much! And if you feel like letting your podcast player be a guinnea pig you can try this url: henrikcarlsson.se/microcast-feed-generator/feed.xml It seems to work better in Castro than in Overcast, but that’s all the players that I’ve tried.

@MrHenko No guaranties on how well it’ll works, so I totally understand if you don’t want to try it. It updates when I manually run a script on my computer so it is not necessarily timely. Also, I might change the url going forward.
