@davew "nobody does XML anymore" yet RSS persists. My thinking is different - all my posting should produce RSS feeds, and all the sites I use that allow posting should allow me to define in my profile the RSS feeds that I want to merge into my input stream (by definition, the RSS feed my input creates on that site is automatically part of it). RSS is very well defined, includes datestamps which will allow merging chronologically. We wouldn't have to invent very much to make it work

@TimHare @davew I agree with this. If my blog/website/whatever produces RSS, another service should be able to accept it as input. And if there is a separate post function, it should support (a subset of) HTML.

@TimHare @davew Tim, your quote misstates what I said. I specifically said "XML-based clients", not producing XML feeds. Actually your description of merging multiple RSS feeds is exactly how Micro.blog works, so I agree with that. 🙂

@manton @timhare --

i can attest to the fact that manton is on board with RSS as a bridge -- that's how I crosspost to Threads from my linkblogging tool. i have a hodgepodge of ways to connect to a variety of systems.

@dave @manton I also use micro.blog use the RSS bridge to post to various services. But the bridge to Threads seems to still be in beta? I can't seem to activate it...
