I feel like MKBHD is trolling us now with the clickbait video titles. R1 review is overall pretty fair, doesn’t change my expectations much.

@manton When a measure (clicks) becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.

@jason Enjoy! All the early adopters like you can get the bugs worked out before my pre-order finally arrives in a few months. 🙂

@manton My only complaint is that he missed the opportunity to entitle the review “Not The Worst Product I’ve Ever Reviewed…”

@manton @pratik I liked a definition for "clickbait" that I heard recently which distinguished it as when the title is incongruous with the content. If the content backs up the title's claim, it's not clickbait — just attention-grabbing. (I haven't watched this video, so I can't comment which it is yet! 😛)

@jeff That would’ve been great. 🤣

@manton indeed. Given a reasonable amount of the complaints were down to software (i.e. not using the touchscreen in ways it maybe should) and accuracy, a lot can be done to fix bugs in software! Makes one glad we work in such a malleable discipline.

@manton Watching the review now and it is not at all obvious why this is not just a smartphone app. (Given everyone has a phone).

@manton I recently watched a Dave 2D video where Dave said he didn’t think it was quite reviewable, so I’d take this as another honest title.

@alpower @manton I feel embarrassed to have even a tangential association with the technology industry. Shipping half finished products is just the latest of many troubling – if not unethical – behaviours that shames us all. (I watched the video, and the title isn’t clickbait, by any definition.)

@paulrobertlloyd I concur - it does seem that the tech industry increasingly often uses their v1 products for user testing in public, instead of holding back releases to a point where things are usable.

@jarrod I haven’t either but MKBDH could’ve titled it R1 Review and got anyone who was waiting for it to see it. If we’re talking about the title, it’s clickbait @manton

@paulrobertlloyd I watched the video before I posted too, and I still think it’s clickbait. The title makes it sound like an unusable product, but the reality is he think it’s incomplete. For that matter, Siri was also incomplete for years and Apple shipped it.

@jeff That would be a great title. Especially because the co-founder said he doesn't think Marques will call it the worst product he ever reviewed.

@jarrod @manton He delivers on the title. He's using this review as a larger commentary on how these AI appliances are being sold in an unfinished state with a lot of promises they cannot deliver on now, but insist they will be able to at some point in the future. There's really nothing to say about these products except they aren't ready yet.

@johninfante @jarrod I've watched a lot of videos about the R1, and from what I can tell, it was ready to ship. They probably over-promised in the January keynote, though.
