@stroughtonsmith I'm a european citizen and I never even set foot in Europe!
Oh boy this is going to be "fun" 🍿
@stroughtonsmith The "glass half full" interpretation is that I only need to visit Europe once a month to get all the new EU features. Now dreaming of developing a marketplace and taking a lot of business trips. 🙂
@stroughtonsmith @9to5Mac Apple forgot that people actually go on 5-6 week holiday to Australia or the US here…
@stroughtonsmith on what grounds does the EU have the power to enforce regulations outside of the land it governs?
My freedom of speech, as granted to me by the Constitution of the United States, does not, in fact, apply anywhere else
It’s just a law, they have no ability to enforce that law outside of the EU
@manton @stroughtonsmith Would a 2nd device logged into the same iCloud account and permanently 'hosted' in Europe work?
@stroughtonsmith lol I wonder how that’ll play with the EU. How can/will they legally define a EU citizen?
@stroughtonsmith I wouldn't be surprised if Apple's strategy is to create a perception where people feel that implementing the DSA (Digital Services Act) has resulted in a huge mess.
This could lead people to conclude that they are better off staying within Apple's 'walled garden,' where ‘everything functions seamlessly’. #DSA #apple
@bensmithuk @stroughtonsmith I think the availability is tied to a specific device, not just an iCloud account. But I'm not sure.
@Kdude @stroughtonsmith Exactly. All they had to do is to allow sideloading. Just that.
@manton Wow! That whole discussion is bizarre. So much misunderstanding / wishful thinking. 🤷♂️
@stroughtonsmith @9to5Mac It’s so users in markets outside of the EU don’t create separate iTunes accounts to access third-party AppStore like Epic Games or Setapp. Apple doesn’t want ot offer them anywhere. It’s quarantining.
@stroughtonsmith So does it work in reverse? If you spend a month in the EU, do you suddenly gain access to all this stuff?
I’m also keen to know what happens at the borders. That’s surely going to be interesting.
