Did some testing this morning with Goodreads and it’s slow and clunky. Timeouts. Really happy with how much we’ve streamlined Micro.blog’s bookshelves so they are fast. Paraphrasing a Jason Fried quote: we can’t predict the future of technology, except that no one is going to want apps to be slower.

@manton There are many things that keep me here on Micro.blog, but the book and reading integration is amongst the best features. Making it so easy to share and discover books to read—making my list unattainable in this lifetime 😂—is a huge value add for me. Seriously, many thanks Manton.

@manton I blame web frameworks written in some language, translated into JavaScript. It’s bloatware. Not everyone has a 1 Mbps symmetric Internet connection, but apparently, developers at Amazon have.

@manton I basically just use it to track what I’ve read and it’s maddeningly slow - look forward to something better

@bgrinter Oh yeah, very difficult to find via web search… There are links to the iOS App Store and Google Play at the top of this site: epilogue.micro.blog

@manton Goodreads situation is so sad. Is the de facto standard because most of the community and authors are there. But is barely maintained and the api is deprecated. I have an app that I use to track progress, but I won’t update cause it will be useless anytime soon.
