Just published the first public beta of MarsEdit 5! No time to write extensive release notes yet, so only the adventurous need install. Key features include Markdown syntax highlighting and a dedicated “Micropost” panel for short-form blogging! redsweater.com/blog/3946…

@danielpunkass Congratulations! My first thought was to lash up a script for FastScripts to create a Micropost from anywhere, and I was hoping for a totes lazy approach like 'Tell application "Mars Edit" to make new micropost...'

@mmetcalfe Of course, I only just saw @manton's post about using a global shortcut key.

@danielpunkass Well done! A present in time for the holidays.

@danielpunkass Will v5 be included in Setapp?

@danielpunkass Micropost is working superbly, but with its emphasis on Micro posting it definitely needs a character count indication. 😀

@mmetcalfe But it needs MarsEdit to be running in the background @danielpunkass

@canion Yes, it is my expectation that it will just replace the version currently there.

@Miraz Great point! Noted.

@pratik Yep. It's my hope to make the app extension ("MarsEdit Micropost") eventually work independently from MarsEdit, but then you'd have to come up with your own way of assigning a keyboard shortcut for it. I might also make a background process to handle some of this stuff independently of the full-blown app.

@pratik This is true. @danielpunkass has suggested a background process down-thread, which is interesting. My fantasy operating system has a "posting bus" which is the reverse of notifications - it lets me define who/what I want to send "notifications" to.

@danielpunkass That would be cool but for now, running it in the background is fine. Also, possible to enable adding images either by dragging from desktop or adding from media library in the micropost pop-up box?
