@manton Is it something on my side or micro.blog that stripped the pen emoji out of the post? Context: Syndication via RSS and it looks like the html entity is in there. boffosocko.com/kind/note/rss
@chrisaldrich The emoji is present in the description element but stripped from the content:encoded element. So maybe @manton fetches the content from the latter?
@sod @chrisaldrich That's it! Thanks for checking that out. Micro.blog uses content:encoded first if it's there.
Thanks @sod for taking the time to track it down; it's been ages since I'd even heard the difference between those two. Now I've got to puzzle out how/why WordPress is monkeying with the two different versions and how it can be fixed. Any ideas welcome... Oddly I'm pretty sure that I've done these before and never seen that differentiation or issue. @manton
@chrisaldrich WordPress makes an effort to convert emojis to images but fails somehow. I'm not sure why; maybe there's no image replacement for that particular emoji? If you disable the wp_staticize_emoji filter, the emoji will show up correctly.
