I was aware there were a few, but was still surprised by the list.

@maique I studied Japanese for a little while in high school and college (technically: got a minor). I knew about bread/pan but not the others.

@toddgrotenhuis I was surprised to see a few of the words for stuff like that: bread, cup, Saturday… and also discovered that THE word that always comes up on the subject doesn’t have a Portuguese origin at all: arigato! It sounds exactly like our “Obrigado”!

@maique My wife on more than one occasion has asked me what the Portuguese word for thank you is. “Is it Arigato?” she asks. 😂

@crossingthethreshold Hahahaha. As long as she doesn’t say “Gracias”, she’s fine 🤣🤣

@maique Just noticed this and was reminded at my surprise when I visited Portugal back in 2008 and realized during and after that trip that so many words that I thought were Bombay slang were actually Portugese, or of Portugese origin 🤯

@samgrover I had no idea, but it’s easy to believe, now that you mention it. I actually find it impressive that the words survived this long, and as slang!
