When the 1Password 8 beta hit, I installed it briefly and gave it a superficial look to see what the fuss was about. I re-installed it this morning to really use it, adding my family and Micro.blog team accounts. Itās actually quite good!

@pratik It's basically a redesign. I don't think there are any specific new features in terms of managing passwords.
@manton I'm a bit afraid how it'll behave on my old Air but, after watching the madness unfold, and really enjoying the app for over 10 years, I decided to double down and finally traded in my license for a subscription. Still need to install 8 beta to see how it runs on the old machine, but I'm in for the long run. It has never failed me.
@maique That's a good question about older machines. Ultimately, my take is that even as a larger company, these are Mac folks. The new Mac version might not be perfect but they are not going to ship something terrible.
@manton That was exactly part of my reasoning: how bad can it be? I seriously doubt it would be unusable š
@gr36 @simonwoods @manton Addding insult to injury, I had a few questions regarding my move from license to subscription, their generous discount offer, a possible move to a family account later on, and emailed their support team. You know what those people did? They were quick and nice, replied to all the questions I had, and applied the discount code in a flash! You could they?? Grrrrrr!!!!
@crossingthethreshold They are moving from a native app on macOS to an Electron based app, people really seem upset about Electron-based apps, and how poorly they are supposed to behave. Not having a native app is one of the complaints, another is the end of the licenses, and the now mandatory use of a subscription. Also the end of iCloud support for syncing, they are going to use their own cloud service.
@maique Oh, so just one or two complaints! I started using 1Password just after it was first launched and then moved away when subscriptions were brought in...but subsequently came back to a subscription as I have always found the app to be so easy and intuitive (and apparently safe) to use. Based on what you shared, my only beef, and it is minor, is that I tend not to like the look and feel of Electron-based apps. I don't know if there are any technical implications of the move? If it works well though, I will trust their track record and more than likely move to version 8 when it is released.
@crossingthethreshold Hahaha... yes, just a couple of things.
I've been using their licensed copies since version 3, and happy with it. I've also been trying to move my wife to a password manager, and she's on Android/PC. Family accounts are the reason I moved to a subscription after all these years, and they are offering a really nice 50% discount for three years when you trade your license for a plan. Basically we'll have a family plan for the price of an individual one for that time.
I'm not a fan of Electron myself, but can definitely live with it.
@maique woah! I missed the news about the 50 percent discount for trading in. Iāve been a customer since v 1.x but stalled on 6 because I didnāt want to go to subscription.
@lukemperez Saw it being talked about on Twitter, and the information is available here if you scroll down a bit. Give it a try, maybe it will work for you š
@maique looking into this, says to email your licence key , that isnot your secret key, is it? š
@maique Iām not going anywhere even if I donāt like electron. Iām sure Iāll begrudge a lot in version 8 when it launches formally but it would have to fall off a cliff in quality before I switch. Thanks for the link.
