Old Insta thoughts: gabz.micro.blog
@Gaby I posted to my IG that Iām closing the account at the end of the month. Giving folks time to reach out if I donāt have another way to reach them. Between Glass, Flickr, and Mb, I have more than enough ways to share and discover photos. (Unsure if Glass is sticking around but decided to truly commit before I decide.)
@lukemperez Ha! that is actually a good idea. Why i didnāt think of that? That is exactly what I did when I closed my Facebook years ago.

I am keeping Fb to legacy reasons but I have logged in < 4 times since October 2022. In a perfect world, Iād close that account too, but I have to many contacts and too many posts to delete before closing. But yeah, adios Meta.
@lukemperez did this work? I mean, anyone reached? I tried one and absolutely no one reached.. š
@pcora a few. I plan on posting again a few times before the end of the month. I figure the algorithm may not show it for everyone. And I did a story, which yielded the most responses.
@Gaby Iām getting increasingly annoyed by the ābecause you like x/y/zā and ābecause you liked x/y/zās post/reelā posts that just appear and you canāt help scrolling. After a while I just leave it and do something else because itās every other post.
@Gaby I donāt use IG but I share your frustration with apps that push suggestions in a blatant attempt to keep you using them. I too wish for more apps and services giving users the option to turn these things off.
@Gaby I agree with a lot of what everybody else has said in the thread.
That feeling you get with IG is what I get with it. Inevitably, I try to build something with intention ā like an account strictly for following photographers ā and within seconds of looking at the timeline the absolute junk of the platform spoils the whole thing. Itās obviously manipulative and intentionally ruined, which feels so bad compared to the alternativesā¦
@issimonwoods @Gaby I once saw someone say Instagram felt like a mall where they occasionally ran into someone they know and that sounds about right to me.
