New feature for Micro.blog’s Bluesky cross-posting: preview cards. This is still off by default, but if you flip it on in Sources, Micro.blog will try to figure out the title, description, and og:image for the first link in your post and attach it. Screenshot:

@manton This is great. I thought about bringing it up as a suggestion.

@manton I presume the in-line links will still be preserved if you turn on the link card previews?

@adders Yes, the text that is posted to Bluesky is the same as before. Just the card should be added when it can.

@manton Tried it and it looks fantastic! I was going to cut back on my Bluesky posting because I'd have to fit both the context and my commentary into 300 characters. Now the context just shows up in the post. Very nice 👍

@manton Nicely done. I look forward to switching it off and then on and then off again every few weeks, like I do. :)

@mitchw Haha, perfect. Personally I may not use the feature, but I know a lot of people have been wanting it.

@manton cool!
I have been adding meta tags to the top of my articles to achieve that, like this:
<meta property="og:image" content="URL">

I don't need to do that anymore?

@manton I switched it on - not sure what I’m seeing that is different. #IKnowItsMe

@samuel Oh sorry, it doesn’t do that. This is for using that image when sending the post to Bluesky. I’ll work on some documentation that better explains the ways Micro.blog uses Open Graph images.

@manton thanks. I can probably do away with the meta I was using before then and it should pick up the first image for me for the links embed graphic on bluesky/social media?
