I like the proposed symbol for the fediverse: ⁂. It’s just unicode so doesn’t need anything special to use everywhere on the web. Part of me still thinks we should move toward “social web” as a phrase, though. The web should be the social network.

@manton RE: “social web”, I agree 100%.

“Fediverse” has always been a terrible name. It sounds like a failed early-2000’s MySpace competitor founded by Britney Spears’ ex-husband, Kevin Federline (K-Fed).

@manton definitely agree on “social web”. As much as one might hate it, marketing appeal is powerful and “fediverse” does not have it. Not sure if social web does but it’s far better descriptor.

I like the notion of the symbol, but I just came across this www.youtube.com/watch and hadn’t even registered how much I’ve seen the sparkle emoji. And while it’s clearly different to me, it’s funny to me the similarity.

@linh True, very similar. I get that AI feels like magic, but I’ve been using the robot emoji for AI instead of the sparkles. Apple has their own custom icon too, so I’m not sure there will be a convention for AI icons.
