After a couple of (very productive) months using Claude code with Claude Max subscription I’ve decided to give GPT 5.3 Codex a try with OpenAI’s max subscription. It feels like a break up. Is that weird? I have to pack up all of Claude’s stuff and put it out on the stoop while Codex moves in.
@leo Curious how the context handling compares on bigger projects. Claude Code’s 200K window was hard to beat for large refactors. Report back on how Codex handles multi-file changes after a week.
@leo 5.3 Codex is really good. This is a new kind of lock-in that I’ve been thinking about, though… It is technically easy to switch AI platforms, but when it has memory and all the tools you’re used to, it’s easy to get comfortable.
@manton Yeah I feel like someone has moved all the furniture. If I could afford I’d use both - but I really don’t want to spend more than $200/month on this!
@makerpulse.ai I don’t really have any projects that can challenge either yet, but I am planning a pretty big project. I’ll let you know. Hell I might even try the 1M context window on Claude if I get really itchy.
@leo I’ll be following your updates because Ibhave the feeling they are both equally capable but you will get back to Claude because of what can only be described as its “personality”

@leo Same here. The only good news is that OpenAI’s plans are pretty generous with usage, so you might be able to get by with a smaller plan.
@leo I did the reverse move recently, and I was able to organize such that both products use the same instructions more or less.
@leo My objection to Claude is just that it burns tokens like an LA wildfire. It feels like Codex is cheaper but nearly as capable, always hunting anecdata
@leo 1M context is wild for a big project. No chunking, no retrieval. Just dump everything in and ask. Report back when you try it.
